Each new cycle causes randomisation of boss spawn locations across all of Inner City, but will not despawn bosses you are currently fighting. Once a cycle begins, the game will randomly choose which blocks in Inner City will contain bosses, while also despawning bosses from old-cycles if no players are currently fighting them. This ‘cycle’ happens every hour, starting at 30minutes past every hour – 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30, etc. The only difference is experience gained, seeing as Black Titans and Flaming Black Titans are more desirable for XP rather than loot.īoss locations are entirely random per “Boss Cycle” and can never, ever be planned for or predicted. A 4min fight with a GS in end-zone offers the exact same loot-spot as an 8-15min Black Titan fight in end-zone. If you are hunting in the highest level zones, it’s much more profitable (loot wise) to kill easier bosses rather than harder ones. It will always be based on the zone loot-table +20 levels. In short, don’t expect better loot just because a boss was tougher than another. Killing a “Mother” in orange-zone would provide the exact same reward as killing a “Flaming Black Titan” in orange-zone. 
Once again, loot is based on the loot-table specific to the zone, NOT the boss. 
As an example, you could loot a level 80 item in Yellow Zone from a boss, whereas you can’t get level 80 loot from regular spots due to lack of the +20 level modifier.
Boss Loot is determined by the loot-table associated with the zone you have killed it in, as well as your GM status (or lack of) – the main difference being that boss loot-spots also add a +20 level modifier. However, there is always a small chance they may drop nothing at all, and slaying multiple bosses in a single zone will often force some of those boss-loot-spots to give nothing. You can never loot food, ammo, medication or miscellaneous items unless the boss died on top of a standard loot spot. Bosses will ONLY drop Weapons or Armour. You can check the XP values by reading the bestiary section of the DF Wiki. The XP you can gain from a killing a boss is set in stone and never changes, regardless of which zone you kill them in. However, various details should be considered before committing 100% to a boss fight. 
There’s nothing like the thrill of taking down a boss for the first time, whether it’s a pesky “Mother” or a mighty “Black Titan”.
